The hospital has informed us that there is a national shortage of reagents used in medical labs. This means that only a small number of very urgent bloods can be processed. We do not have a date for the return of normal services, however we have been told in the worst case it could be a few weeks.
If you think your bloods are needed urgently then the Duty Doctor can be informed to decide if this is the case and we will get back to you. If you don't think your bloods are urgent, for example if taken prior to a medication review or diabetic review then we kindly ask that you contact us in two weeks and see what the current situation is.
Please be aware that this is affecting all practices and hospitals in our region. The practice was not informed of this issue until the afternoon of the 6th October and was given no warning prior to this.
The shortage of the reagent is a national problem and has been escalated to the highest levels within the NHS.
We are trying hard to contact all of our patients affected by this and appreciate your patience.
